
Mission Statement:
The WSJA has protected the rights and quality of life of Corrections Officers working in Washington State jails for more than 37 years by promoting professionalism, personal support, and legislative representation for all its members.
Vision StatementThe WSJA serves will be fiscally responsible and transparent in all it's operations, communicate with its membership to continually to involve them in their association, and take pride in what we accomplish on behalf of all Washington State criminal justice personnel.
Presidents Message
I thank you for electing me to serve again as your President for the 2010 term. My work with the Executive Board and all our membership will continue as I implement several quality improvement initiatives during the upcoming year.The association is currently strong financially after weathering the effects of the on-going economic recession. We continue to maintain the interests of our membership as we look ahead in the coming year to collaborate with other criminal justice organizations and our parent organization- the American Jail Association. We will again focus our collective resources to improve training on issues affecting all Corrections Officers and remain an active voice in statewide legislative issues and federal initiatives such as the forthcoming implementation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
Accomplishments 2009:
• Increased by 50% Executive Board meetings to provide association oversight
• Established a functioning website
• Represented WSJA at the national American Jail Association Conference
• Financially supported families of grieving law enforcement and corrections officers suffering catastrophic loss of a family member
• Conducted a membership meeting and ballet voting to execute By-laws mandates
• Supported jail specific legislative initiatives by maintaining our voice at the 2009 legislative session
• Appointed a representative to the Washington State 2010-2011 Senate Work Group studying jail bail bonding issues resulting from the murder of four Lakewood Police Department personnel
• Founding scholarship fund contributor to the National Jail Leadership Command College
• Provided Jail training to corrections agencies statewide on jail specific issues
